ColourJot is a new way of teaching colour mixing without the confusion and complex jargon of traditional colour theory. ColourJot templates and methods are a simple, hands-on approach to help beginners explore and track colour mixing while creating unusual colour combinations that often break elementary colour theory.

Organizing colour is the key to understanding colour and stencils are the quickest way to create repeating layouts quickly and participants require less tools, less measuring, and no mistakes. Draw directly with marker because there is no need for penciling it in first. Just trace the stencil and go.

ColourJot Templates are 2 in 1
Together the complete series of stencils, recommended colour combinations, and step-by-step instructions will make beautiful reference books that are artworks in themselves. Artists, art teachers, and art stores are encouraged to start ColourJot Clubs, online and in-person, to provide encouragement and camaraderie of shared learning. There is opportunity for ColourJot certified teachers to expand on the ColourJot series.
A: ColourJot Circle holds 54 colours.

B: ColourJot Grid holds 45 colours (at least).

ColourJotting is a repetitive practice that many participants will find relaxing and enjoyable. The results provide a sense of accomplishment, and the finished product is also useful. The process gives participants experience with brush technique and water control therefore ColourJotting is a skill-building exercise for beginner painters.
Shape & Features of a ColourJot Stencils
ColourJot has 7 designs and more will be added in limited editions as opportunities for partnerships come from artists, retailers, or manufactures. However, the format should remain the same so that the teaching is repeatable and remains intuitive for the participants. The small changes in the stencil designs are intended to add novelty and variety to keep participants motivated and allow ColourJotters to personalize their ColourJot art journals.

The stencils are an 8” square to fit common 2-page layout in a A5 watercolour journal or accordion books (5.5×8.25”) or a 1-page layout in a larger A4 size watercolour book (8 x10”, 8.5×11” or 9×12”).
- The stencils are traced, repositioned and retraced to make a full circle and a variety of grid styles.
- 8” size means minimal waste in the manufacturing process.
- Rounded corners are durable and more comfortable than square corners.
- The middle dents at the top and bottom are off-centred to align with the book gutter and pivot-point for easy placement and registration.
- A score line is laser-etched to mark where the stencil may be cut in half by the user to make the stencil smaller to slip into the back-pocket of their journal. It is not ideal to cut the stencil in half but this is useful for artists who jot on the go.
